ARTIST STATEMENT AND BIOGRAPHY
"The search for God, a greater consciousness, or simply something bigger than humanity and the stars, this is a curiosity of the unknown we all share. As a child, I remember discovering a book about stories and myths of the macabre that my parents owned. Looking at images of sea serpents, witches, spirits and other extraordinary mysteries piqued my interest enough to want to know more. The unknown has always fascinated me and this interest extends to my work as an artist. I believe it is my search for a higher power, the essence of which we all exist from. "

M. H. Yaghooti is an American contemporary mixed media painter born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. His discovery of comic books at a young age led him to take up drawing, an interest that went on to spark his passion for art, further nurtured by his mother whom he credits as a personal influence. Yaghooti pursued art education early on while in elementary school, and followed through on his endeavors completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design with a concentration in Illustration from New Jersey City University, in 2000.

Using occult books and photographs as a source of reference, he employs oil, acrylic and watercolor along with other mediums on paper, wood or canvas in his technique. Most recently he has experimented with monotyping, stencils and spray paint bringing about the evolution of his work. Influenced by European painters and contemporary American illustrators alike, he counts Francis Bacon, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Alex Grey, and Egon Schiele as some of his prominent influences.

Over the last ten years, his work has been exhibited throughout New York and New Jersey and has been prominently featured in publications, both print and online. Yaghooti has self-published two books, “Black Lines In A White World” (2008) and “Chameleon” (2015), which highlight his drawings and paintings respectively. When he is not in the midst of creating visual wonderment, he's working on a music project with friends and posting on Instagram.
"The unknown has always fascinated me and this interest extends to my work as an artist."
